Amarillo Chapter of IAAP names Xcel Energy 2011-2012 Company of the Year

In recognition of National Boss Day, the Amarillo Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals ("IAAP") awarded the Company of the Year ("COTY") award to Xcel Energy during the chapter's October meeting. Linda Hall, Administrative Assistant II, made the nomination citing Xcel Energy's support of the administrative profession and the Amarillo Chapter of IAAP. She states, "Xcel Energy has created the Spot-on-Bonus for managers to reward non-exempt, non-bargaining employees for outstanding performance."

The COTY award was presented by Carla Banks, CPS/CAP, Chapter President and COTY Committee member. Gary McBride, Manager, Substation Construction, accepted the award on behalf of Xcel Energy.

The Amarillo Chapter of IAAP awards two $250 scholarships; the recipients are Stephanie Estep and Brenna Skinner

Stephanie Estep, of Amarillo, is a junior at West Texas A&M University pursuing a degree in Business Administration. She stated in her application, "My past employment experience has taught me so much about business administration. However, not having my degree has limited me from doing what I love to do and possibly become a manager one day."

She stated that being a stay-at-home Mom and living on one income has made it difficult to pursue her degree and, "I would like the opportunity to receive this scholarship to further my education." She was previously employed at Goodwill Industries of Amarillo, Inc.

Brenna Skinner, of Dumas, will be a freshman at Texas Tech University in the Fall. She plans to study Accounting and Finance. She states, "I have chosen to double major in Accounting and Finance because I want to pursue a real estate career and these would be a good background for my future plans." She also stated that it was important to receive this scholarship because "It will help me to have an academically successful college experience as well as to help me financially as I enter the real world."

Brenna has been active in high school. For 2010—2011 she was Student Council Secretary, and National Honor Society Secretary. Other activities include Chamber Choir, Section Leader, Show Choir, U.I.L. Speech Team—Prose, Prose Regional Qualifier, Theater, One-Act Play, Honorable Mention, Musical, and DHS Players President. She was equally active her freshman, sophomore and junior years in high school. She was named Top 10 Seniors, Amarillo Globe News Academic Spotlight and was ranked 6 of 219 Dumas High School Seniors for 2011. She has also been active in Girl Scouts, winning several awards.

The Amarillo Chapter awards a $250 scholarship each spring. Applications are available in February or March each year.
