Carla Banks CPS/CAP Named 2009 Chapter Member of the Year

The Chapter Member of the Year (CMOTY) award is given each year to the chapter member who excels in five areas: 1) IAAP participation, 2) CPS/CAP participation, 3) Education study courses, 4) Teaching courses, and 5) Fundraising/Community involvement. Points are awarded for participation in each area and all members are eligible for the award.

Carla Banks CPS/CAP was named the 2009 Chapter Member of the Year at the chapter's Administrative Professional Day celebration on April 9. Banks joined IAAP in 2007 and this past year attended the 2008 Seminar, the APW Briefing in April 2008, the Las Colinas IAAP University in September 2008, and the Certification Conference in October 2008. She has earned the Certified Profession Secretary and the Certified Administrative Professional ratings. She participated in the 2009 Valentine's Day flower delivery fundraiser and "Be a Basket Case" in December 2008. She spoke at IMPACT Lubbock and IMPACT YOur Career in Amarillo. She sponsore3d a new member, Laquitta Doak. She serves on the 2010 T-L Division Steering Committee, New Chapter Formation Committee, Celebration Committee, Certification Committee and Nominating Committee. She chaired the 2009 Seminar Committee. She received a plaque, pin and flowers for this honor.

Banks is employed at the WTAMU Police Department. She and her husband Lee have two grown children, Karlton and Jean. They are active in their church and lead a Bible study on Monday nights.

Amarillo Economic Development Corporation Named 2007-2008 Company of the Year

The Amarillo Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals held its annual Boss Day Reception Tuesday, October 16, 2007 in the Heritage Room of the Chase Tower. The event was held as an opportunity for administrative professionals to honor their boss for National Boss Day. Speaker for the event was Courtney Forrest of the Amarillo Convention and Visitors Council who presented "What's Happening in Amarillo". The bosses were presented with certificates of appreciation.

The 2007 Company of the Year (COTY) award was presented to the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation. Jo Ann Haddock, representing the 2006 COTY winner, Affiliated Foods, Inc. presented the award to Richard "Buzz" David, President and CEO of the AEDC. The award is presented to a member company who demonstrates exceptional support of the administrative profession and IAAP.

The AEDC was formed in 1989 with a mission to "promote business expansion in the greater Amarillo area that builds a stronger, more diversified economy and increases the economic vitality and wealth of the community."

 

Whitney Danielle Malone awarded scholarship in 2009

Whitney Danielle Malone of Shamrock Texas was awarded the 2009 IAAP Amarillo Chapter scholarship in the amount of $250. Danielle plans to attend Texas Tech University in the Fall to pursue a degree in Business and Finance.

While in high school she has been a member of the Shamrock High School band and was drum major her senior year. She was a varsity cheerleader for three years and was captain her senior year. She was inducted into the National Honor Society during her junior year. She has participated in UIL One Act Play for three years and received Honorable Mention All-Star Cast for two of those years. As a junior she was chosen to participate in a leadership program and was chosen Who's Who of High School Students. She also drives for Meals on Wheels.
